Ms. Yount joined Harbottle Law Group in July 2024. She has been representing public school districts in the areas of special education, student discipline, personnel, complaint investigations, and nonprofit foundation organization for more than 35 years. She earned Bachelor’s degrees in Communications and American Studies from California State University, Fullerton and her Juris Doctor degree from Western State University, College of Law.
Ms. Yount provides ongoing legal counsel to school districts in special education matters, assisting school districts and charter schools in proactive measures such as staff training and methodical review of areas of dispute, in order to contain the costs of litigation by negotiating mediation agreements as warranted. Ms. Yount has completed the Mediating the Litigated Case program at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. She provides consultation and representation in the areas of compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, at IEP team meetings, Section 504 meetings, Resolution Sessions, Mediations, and Due Process Hearings.
Ms. Yount has completed training for certification as a Title IX Investigator. She conducts investigations for UCP and non-UCP complaints as a neutral investigator through the gathering and review of documentary evidence, interviewing of parties and witnesses, and the preparation of notices and investigation reports in satisfaction of statutory and District regulations.
Ms. Yount has presented for professional educators, providing in-service trainings and conference presentations regarding issues pertaining to special education, student discipline, and nonprofit foundation issues.
